In 2020, while the world was in the grip of a global pandemic, Marc-Antoine Massicotte, president and CEO of the Casino Lac-Leamy Sound of Light, decided to light up the sky over an entire city in western Quebec. He would organize a special edition of the annual fireworks display normally held over five nights and attracting an average of 40,000 spectators with a $2 million budget. The case tells the entire story of this event, called Illumination, beginning with the April announcement that all of Quebec’s summer festivals would be cancelled, followed by the conception and development of this unifying project, and concluding with the post-event assessment.
