Industries Émile Lachance ltée is one of the many firms that were founded as spin-offs of IPL, a major plastics manufacturer in Saint-Damien, Quebec. Émile Lachance had been an employee at IPL for a number of years when the firm offered him an opportunity to become a manufacturer’s agent. Later, he was asked if he wanted to purchase the division of consumer products he was already distributing. With the support of his children, whom he groomed to take over the business, and with the constant support of the two IPL managers, Émile Lachance did not hesitate to take risks at an age when others were retiring. Two of his sons, Normand and Pierre Lachance, tell how their family business was born and how two family businesses can benefit from each other.
