EmoScienS, jeune pousse d’intelligence artificielle (IA), est aux prises avec des enjeux de positionnement stratégique et éthique qui divisent sa petite équipe : devrait-elle accorder autant d’importance à l’éthique dans son discours, ses initiatives et sa proposition de valeur ? Pourtant, les enjeux éthiques qu’affrontent EmoScienS et l’ensemble de l’industrie sont évidents, ainsi que l’urgence d’assurer le développement de systèmes d’IA au bénéfice de la société.

The artificial intelligence (AI) startup EmoScienS was grappling with strategic and ethical positioning issues that divided its small team: Should it emphasize ethics in its discourse, initiatives, and value proposition? Yet the ethical issues facing EmoScienS and the industry as a whole were clear. The urgency of ensuring that AI systems were developed for the benefit of society was pressing, and immediate action was needed to address these issues.

Objectifs pédagogiques

Le présent cas a pour objectifs d’aider les étudiants à :

  • anticiper et relever les enjeux éthiques liés à l’utilisation de la technologie d’IA spécifique d’EmoScienS selon son modèle d’affaires ;
  • constater les tensions entre les multiples responsabilités et intérêts qui rivalisent au sein même d’EmoScienS ;
  • poser un jugement critique sur la viabilité du modèle d’affaires de la jeune entreprise à la lumière des enjeux soulevés ;
  • évaluer en quoi, si tel est le cas, la technologie d’EmoScienS respecte les principes de la Déclaration de Montréal pour un développement responsable de l’IA.
