Le TNM est une institution théâtrale. Lorraine Pintal en est la première femme directrice générale. Cette direction coïncide avec un renouveau dans les orientations prises par la maison fondée par Jean Gascon, la prise de possession d'un lieu renouvelé, une nouvelle répartition des fonctions de direction générale et un nouveau mode de gestion des ressources humaines avec la mise en place d'un comité d'adaptation de la main d'oeuvre (CAMO).
