Synergistic Collaboration Between Project Management and Change Management: A New Building in the Downtown Business District for HEC Montréal
Only the abstract is available in English.
The case describes a rich, original, synergistic and long-term collaboration involving project management and change management, in the context of a large-scale, structuring construction project for a university, over several years. Among other things, it deals with the strategic positioning of HEC Montréal, the recognized need for space, the critical choice of a location, the strategic presentation file and the opportunity file up to the business file. The circular collaboration between change management and project management is addressed through these different events: the appointment of a change management expert professor to accompany the change; a pilot project to experiment with the new spaces; the creation of change management committees; coaching activities in change management, communication and social acceptability; good neighbor relations; the inclusive codesign workshop; architecture for a complex site; building information modeling; avoiding a crisis over the loss of green space; LEED Gold energy-efficient certification; respect for heritage; the construction bidding process; opening the envelope and the prohibitive cost that challenged the project. The case ends with the groundbreaking, at the beginning of the construction phase.
